Psychiatry services are limited to psychiatric assessment, medication management and continuity of care for students requiring on-going medication monitoring.
- SHCS psychiatrists do not provide long term psychotherapy; however, they can provide referrals to off-site community psychiatrists when this care is indicated. SHCS psychiatrist referrals for off-site services qualify for SHIP insurance authorization within the scope of SHIP plan benefits.
- The initial psychiatry assessment generally consists of an evaluation and recommended treatment plan.
- The psychiatrist may start, continue or modify psychiatric medications as appropriate.
- The psychiatrist may also provide ongoing medication management.
- There are cases when the mental health needs of the student exceed the level of care that the psychiatry services at SHCS can provide. Such patients are advised to arrange off campus psychiatric treatment.
*The cost of specialty care does not include the cost for any clinical support services (such as Lab, X-ray, Pharmacy, and Physical Therapy) needed at the time of visit.
How to Make an Appointment
Psychiatry appointments can be made only with a referral from SHCS physician, nurse practitioner, or psychologist.
Students referred by their current off-campus provider will need to see an SHCS provider for referral prior to scheduling with psychiatry.
