Advisory Committees

UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) is made up of several advisory committees, which focus on different aspects of the SHCS program. Members are appointed for one-year terms by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Committees generally meet in the evenings, several times a quarter, with additional meetings scheduled as necessary. Previous experience is not required.

UC Davis Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) Committee

The UC SHIP Committee was formed to provide broad campus involvement in the maintenance and development of the Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP), and provide informed advice to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs regarding SHIP. The Committee endeavors to provide a health insurance plan that best meets the essential medical needs of most students at an affordable price. It recognizes that exceptional medical needs for a small number of students may be better met by alternative health plans. Students, university administration, and faculty are represented on the Committee. Members are appointed by the Vice Chancellor for one-year terms. The SHIP committee generally meets for 1-2 hours, approximately once a month, with additional meetings scheduled as necessary. This committee does not meet during the summer. Previous health insurance experience is not required.

Additional information is available below. Undergraduate students interested in participating as a representative on the UC SHIP committee for the 2023-2024 academic year can contact Romana Naqvi. Graduate and professional students should check with their department or student government about participation in this committee.

The next UC Davis SHIP Committee meeting is scheduled for: Monday, October 30, 2023 - 3pm

Health Fee Oversight Committee (HFOC)

Approved by student referendum, a health fee was established in 1996 to assist in funding of UC Davis SHCS Medical Services. The Health Fee Oversight Committee (HFOC) makes recommendations for changes in the health fee and types of services the health fee supports. This committee is advisory to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the SHCS Director. Members are appointed for one-year terms by the Vice Chancellor. The HFOC generally meets once each quarter for 2 hours, with additional meetings scheduled as necessary. This committee does not meet over the summer. Previous experience in health care services is not required.

Additional information is available below. Students interested in participating as a representative on the HFOC committee for the 2023-24 academic year can contact Ashley Logins-Miller.

Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB)

The goal of the Student Health Advisory Board is to seek diverse student representation to serve as an important liaison between Student Health and Counseling Services and the student body, and to assist in promoting the general health and well-being of UC Davis students.
