How I Work with Students
I tend to meet students where their needs are by tailoring the therapy process to each student who I work with. Typically, I will utilize evidence based cognitive behavior therapy techniques while also using a narrative approach to therapy. I always consider the students who I work with the experts on their own lives and provide them with skills that they can incorporate in their lives outside of therapy. By doing so, students are often able to gain insight into themselves and their personal struggles, while building strength and confidence.
Professional Interests
My professional interests include anxiety related issues, men’s issues, trauma, addiction, and suicide prevention. I am affiliated with the APA Division 51 (Society for the Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity), AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention), and SVPA (Sacramento Valley Psychological Association) where I was on the board as the Early Career Chair.
About Me
I am a Northern California local and have lived within the Davis/Sacramento area for most of my life. My work in counseling began in community mental health and transitioned to college counseling after discovering my passion for working with college students. I have had the opportunity to work as a psychologist at Sam Houston State University, Sacramento State, and now UC Davis. I know firsthand that college can be some of the best years of our lives but can also include some of the greatest struggles that we will face. The resources offered on college campuses can be invaluable in working through these hardships and difficult transitions.
In my free time, I enjoy being physically active and engaging in outdoor activities including snowboarding, biking, running, hiking, kayaking, and paddleboarding. For fun, I enjoy socializing with friends and family, attending local events, and working on house and automotive projects. My partner and I have a young child who we love introducing to novel experiences in this world. We also have three adorable and wild cats who often make themselves present on Zoom.
