How I Work With Students

Hello! My name is Kevon (Key-Von; He/Him). I approach my work from a Narrative Perspective, which is just a fancy way of saying I seek to support students in clarifying and processing troubling life themes, identifying strengths and skills for coping, and realizing new habits helping them reach their hopes.

I believe everyone brings their own expertise into the therapy space and I enjoy collaborating with them towards shared goals and richer self-learning. I also integrate a multicultural lens, emotion-focused interventions, and interpersonal processing, to empower students’ exploration of the diverse factors influencing their experience, and potential avenues for overcoming challenges.

I work with all clients and strive to provide a non-judgmental space. I hold specific experience in working with underrepresented students and supporting trauma processing, depression, anxiety, adjustment, grief and bereavement, and career identity exploration.

About Me

I am African American and was born and raised in Inglewood, CA. I started my college education at Cerritos College and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where I attained my B.A. in Psychology. Following, I pursued doctoral training in Counseling Psychology at UW Madison where I will receive my PhD soon. I have acquired experiences providing therapy to diverse college students and collaborating with campus staff on projects, outreaches, and workshops that promotes students’ wellness. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy gaming with my friends and family, catching up on anime and sports, being outdoors (e.g., hiking, cycling, or chilling), and watering my plants while I listen to good music.
