The UC Davis Student Health & Wellness Center utilizes the newest technology and the latest trends in student healthcare to enhance student visits and delivery of care.
All registered UC Davis students are automatically enrolled in the campus sponsored UC Davis Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP). If you have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must apply for a UC SHIP waiver by the date specified for your school.
UC SHIP medical plan identification cards are available via the StudentHealth App from Anthem Blue Cross. Learn more about how to download the StudentHealth Mobile App (pdf) for easy access your UC SHIP ID card and benefits.
When you have questions about your health insurance, whether about the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or other health insurance you may have, the Insurance Advocate Program is here to help.
Forms such as insurance waivers, cancellation and refund requests, and benefits checklists are available for download.
SHIP combines medical, mental health, dental and vision coverage under one plan and is available for all registered UC Davis Students.
If your registration status changes from that of a registered student, it may impact your enrollment in, and eligibility for, SHIP coverage. Select the appropriate status change to see how it will impact your SHIP coverage:
Voluntary Enrollment in SHIP
Students covered by SHIP who go on PELP, Filing Fee, or who have graduated may elect to enroll in Voluntary SHIP coverage.
Undergraduate, graduate and professional students who are enrolled in UC SHIP have the option to enroll eligible dependents in a voluntary plan. The plan provides medical insurance and the option to purchase dental/vision benefits.
All registered UC Davis students are required to have health insurance. To help you meet the Health Insurance Requirement, UC Davis automatically enrolls all registered students in the UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) (If you are a medical student your health insurance is provided through the School of Medicine).
- If you want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you are automatically enrolled — no action is required.
- If you have comparable insurance and do not want to be enrolled in UC SHIP, you must apply for a UC SHIP waiver by the date specified for your school. The services at Student Health and Counseling Services are available to all students, even if you waive UC SHIP.
Fees for UC SHIP coverage are charged to your student account each term along with your registration fees. UC SHIP benefits, costs, and dates of coverage are updated every June for the coming year.
