UC SHIP and Graduation, Filing Fee and Planned Educational Leave (PELP)

Whenever your registration status changes, your existing UC SHIP coverage and your eligibility for UC SHIP is impacted. If you change your registration status prior to the start of the term, your UC SHIP coverage as a registered student will terminate once the new term begins.

If you change your registration status after the first day of the term, your UC SHIP coverage will continue and you will be charged accordingly.

If you do not wish to remain enrolled in UC SHIP, you may file a Cancellation and Refund Request form with the Insurance Services office at the Student Health and Wellness Center and, as long as you have not utilized the plan benefits during that term, your UC SHIP charge will be refunded.

Refunds will only be granted if submitted no later than the last day of the term the refund is being requested for. Example: A refund request for UC SHIP fees charged for Fall term must be filed with our office no later than the last day of Fall term. If submitted beyond the last day of that term, the refund request will not be granted.

Graduating

UC SHIP members who graduate at the end of Fall or Winter term are not automatically enrolled in UC SHIP for the term following graduation, but are eligible to enroll at non-student rates. Voluntary enrollment after graduation is limited to one additional quarter or semester of coverage.

UC SHIP members who graduate at the end of Spring term will continue their coverage through the summer and are not eligible to voluntarily enroll past the last day of summer term.

Filing Fee

UC SHIP members who go on Filing Fee are not automatically enrolled in UC SHIP. UC SHIP students who go on Filing Fee may elect to voluntarily enroll in the plan for one additional quarter or semester of coverage.

Planned Educational Leave (PELP)

UC SHIP members who go on PELP are not automatically enrolled in UC SHIP, but they may elect to voluntarily enroll in the plan. Undergraduate students may elect to enroll for one additional quarter of coverage. Graduate students may elect to enroll in up to two quarters or one semester of coverage.

Withdrawal from UC Davis

Students who withdraw from UC Davis are not eligible to continue their UC SHIP coverage beyond their last registered term.

Cancellation of Registration

Students who cancel their registration at UC Davis are not eligible for UC SHIP coverage. If your account was charged for UC SHIP, you may request a refund of those charges.

Dismissed

Students who are dismissed from UC Davis and are currently enrolled in UC SHIP may elect to continue their UC SHIP coverage through the end of the term in which they were dismissed, or they may request a refund of those charges as long as they have not utilized their UC SHIP benefits within that term.

Voluntary Enrollment in UC SHIP

Voluntary enrollment in UC SHIP is managed by Wells Fargo Insurance Services (on behalf of Anthem Blue Cross). In addition, the cost of insurance (premiums) for voluntary enrollment is paid directly to Wells Fargo. The UC Davis Insurance Services office DOES NOT manage enrollment or collect payments for the voluntary enrollment plan. More information about the voluntary enrollment, coverage dates, and costs is available on the UC SHIP Website.

For voluntary enrollment questions, please contact Wells Fargo Customer Service at 1 (800) 853-5899.
