UC Student Health Insurance Plan
UC SHIP Eligibility Notice: Filing Fee

If you establish your Filing Fee status IN ADVANCE of the quarter in which it applies, your University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) coverage will be canceled as of your status change (first day of the quarter), and your UC SHIP fee will be fully refunded.

If you are a registered student and your Filing Fee status is established ON OR AFTER the first day of the quarter in which it applies, your UC SHIP coverage will continue to the end of the quarter, and your SHIP fee will NOT be refunded. A UC SHIP fee refund will not be granted even though your filing fee status is retroactively applied to the first day of the quarter.

Note that the first day of the quarter is not the same date as the first day of classes. Refer to the Office of the Registrar's Academic Calendar for applicable dates.

If you establish Filing Fee status in time to qualify for a full UC SHIP fee refund and cancellation of UC SHIP coverage, but you wish to remain on UC SHIP, you may elect to continue your UC SHIP coverage as a “non-student” for the first quarter of your Filing Fee status only. Your non-student UC SHIP fee will include the cost of a student health services card so that you may receive services at Student Health Services at student rates. Voluntary non-student enrollment must take place within the first 30 calendar days of quarter or semester. To request further information, call Insurance Services at 530.752.6055. To enroll, download a non-student UC SHIP Enrollment Form.

You will not be eligible for UC SHIP coverage after the first quarter of your Filing Fee status.

SUMMER COVERAGE: UC SHIP members who are on Filing Fee for spring quarter or semester are covered through the end of the summer coverage period.

DATES OF COVERAGE: For dates of coverage, refer to UC SHIP 2011-12: Cost and Dates of Coverage

Notification

If you change your registration status, you will NOT be individually notified of your loss of UC SHIP eligibility. Information regarding the impact of registration status change on UC SHIP eligibility is provided in the UC Davis Course Catalog, the Class Schedule and Registration Guide, and the SHCS insurance webpage. Anthem Blue Cross will provide a certificate to you upon cancellation of your membership, stating the beginning and ending dates of your UC SHIP coverage.
